"What luck for rulers that men do not think."

 - Adolf Hitler

It may seem odd that I share a quote from the man who has become the epitome of evil in our lifetimes, but it is so important that we remember what this man said.  He was indeed pleased that few people took the time to understand the destructive things he was doing much less how government worked at all.

This course is about making sure that we all are thinking so that an Adolf Hitler has no chance to abuse the rights and liberties of the people.

    Letter-writing project

Each student will be writing a letter to an elected official about an issue of concern to the student.  Details will come later!

"Here I Stand" or Debate in Mock Trial

"Here I Stand" - Each student selects a controversial issue that government must address and he / she goes before the class, explains it, takes a stand by defending a position one way or the other, then fields questions and challenges to that position.

Mock Trial - We hold debates on four crucial issues of concern to Americans today, and they are held as mock trials.  The defendants in each trial are guns, immigration, welfare, and abortion.  Students are divided into groups to role-play lawyers and witnesses either prosecuting or defending those issues.
